For Elisia.
For the promises we say,
and the ones we keep
even when the sky changes color.
Princess Elisia loved sundown.
It was her favorite time of day.
The sky turned soft.
The sun moved slow.
The world felt quieter.
She always went to the same place.
The hill by the road.
Princess Elisia sat on the grass with her doll in her lap.
The road stretched out in front of her, long and gentle.
Sometimes it was empty.
Sometimes it wasn’t.
Today, it was empty.
That was okay.
The Wandering Knight had taught her something important.
“Some things don’t need to be counted,” he had said.
“Some things just need to be trusted.”
Princess Elisia thought about that as the sky turned pink.
She hugged her doll.
“I’ll wait here,” she said.
The wind brushed past her hair.
The road stayed quiet.
Princess Elisia remembered the promise.
The Wandering Knight always said it first.
But tonight felt different.
Tonight, she wanted to say it too.
She stood up on the hill, small but steady.
The sky was orange now.
Gold at the edges.
She took a deep breath.
“No road is longer than my love,” Princess Elisia said softly.
“And I always find my way back to you.”
She smiled.
The words felt warm.
She said it again.
A little louder this time.
“No road is longer than my love.”
The wind carried it.
Princess Elisia waited.
She didn’t rush.
She didn’t count.
She watched the sky.
Then—
A shape.
At first, it was small.
Then closer.
Princess Elisia didn’t run.
She didn’t shout.
She stood tall.
The Wandering Knight came up the road.
When he reached the hill, he stopped.
He knelt, like he always did.
But this time, Princess Elisia spoke first.
“I kept the promise,” she said.
The Wandering Knight smiled.
“I know,” he said.
They sat together and watched the sky turn dark blue.
Stars peeked out, one by one.
Princess Elisia leaned against him.
“Even when you’re gone,” she said,
“the promise stays.”
The Wandering Knight wrapped his arm around her.
“Yes,” he said. “It always does.”
Princess Elisia looked at the road one last time.
It didn’t feel long anymore.
It felt like home.
That night, as the stars filled the sky, Princess Elisia knew something very important.
Love doesn’t disappear.
It waits.
It listens.
And it always finds its way back.
